Alabama Lift Laws and Vehicle Equipment Laws
Alabama's street legal laws are not as complete as most states. There are no laws listed that restrict suspension lifts, frame height, or bumper height. Residents of Alabama are free to install suspension lift kits, aftermarket wheels and tires, performance shocks, aftermarket bumpers, and grille guards.

|
Vehicle size in Alabama is restricted to a maximum width of 102 inches, a maximum height of 13 feet 6 inches, and a maximum single vehicle length of 40 feet. |

Tires |
|
All tires on vehicles driven in Alabama must be in safe operating condition, without any bulges or exposed cords. There is a minimum tread depth of 1/16 inch and tire grooving is allowed as long as the grooves are not cut below the original tire tread depth. |

|
Neither of Alabama's codes reference wheels, however, they do need to be safe for highway use. |

|
Cars and trucks driven in Alabama are required to have brakes on all 4 wheels. The brakes must be capable of stopping the vehicle from a speed of 20 mph within 30 feet. A secondary, mechanical, parking brake is also required. |
