Indiana Lift Laws and Vehicle Equipment Laws


Indiana has no suspension lift laws or frame height restrictions. Bumpers, however, must be no higher than 30 inches. Then, as long as legal bumper height is maintained, suspension lift kits, aftermarket wheels and tires, performance shocks, aftermarket bumpers, and grille guards are allowed.

Tires must be in safe operating condition, without any bulges or exposed cords. Indiana has no listed minimum tire tread depth. It is unclear if tire grooving is permitted.

Braking Requirements

All vehicles in Indiana must have brakes on all 4 wheels capable of stopping the vehicle from a speed of 20 mph within 30 feet. A secondary, mechanical, parking brake is also required.
