Georgia Lift Laws and Vehicle Equipment Laws

The Georgia Code (GC) governs the state's street legal laws.

All vehicles driven in Georgia are restricted to a maximum width of 102 inches and a maximum height of 13 feet 6 inches. Georgia does not have a clearly defined single vehicle length limit.

All vehicle tires must be safe and without any bulges or exposed cords. Georgia requires a minimum tire tread depth of 1/16 inch. Tire grooving is not covered in the code.

There are not any regulations on wheels found in Georgia's laws.

Georgia requires vehicles to have brakes on all 4 wheels. The brakes must be capable of stopping the vehicle from a speed of 20 mph within 30 feet. A secondary, mechanical, parking brake is also required.

Steering systems are not covered in Georgia's code.

The suspension lift limit in Georgia is 2 inches.

Georgia has set maximum frame heights depending on the vehicle's GVWR.

Bumpers are not restricted in Georgia.

Georgia only requires fenders and mud flaps on commercial vehicles.

In addition to headlights and tail lights, vehicles in Georgia are allowed to have auxiliary lights.

The laws in Georgia do not indicate whether windshields are required. Vehicles with windshields must be equipped with windshield wipers.

In Georgia, mufflers are required equipment. Exhaust cutouts are prohibited.

Nitrous oxide is prohibited in Georgia.
