Oregon Lift Laws and Vehicle Equipment Laws

The street legal laws of Oregon contain no suspension lift limits, frame height limits, or bumper height restrictions. As such, drivers can legally install suspension lift kits, aftermarket wheels and tires, performance shocks, aftermarket bumpers, and grille guards.

Dimensions

Overall vehicle size in Oregon is limited to 102 inches wide, 14 feet tall, and 40 feet long for a single vehicle.

Tires

Oregon requires that tires be in safe operating condition, without any bulges or exposed cords. There is no listed minimum tire tread depth and no mention of tire grooving in the laws.

Oregon’s statutes do not reference wheels.

Braking Requirements
Brakes

In Oregon, vehicles with a GVWR of less than 8,000 lbs. must be able to stop from 20 mph within 25 feet. Vehicles with a GVWR of 8,000 lbs. or more must be capable of stopping within 35 feet from a speed of 20 mph. Oregon also requires a secondary, mechanical, parking brake.

In Oregon, a vehicle’s frame must not be lower than the sidewall height of its tires. There is no maximum vehicle frame height limit.

Fender Requirements
Fenders

Oregon requires mud flaps or fenders on all vehicles. Fenders and/or mud guards must extend to the full outside width of the tire tread and must extend to at least 27 inches above the roadway.
